Football DofE Residential

Football DofE Residential

New for 2025!

Based in the beautiful Norfolk Countryside, Scorpion is an Ex-Military & Firefighter team capable of ensuring you complete the required 5 days & 4 nights away from home.

Our new Football D of E Residential offers an exciting opportunity for young people aged 16 to 25 to learn new skills, make friends, and challenge themselves.

Our expert team of UEFA badged coaches and fitness staff have designed an itinerary filled with engaging activities focusing on both fundamental and technical skills, such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and ball control, as well as tactical awareness and game strategy. Each day brings different challenges, allowing you to develop new skills.

The stunning Norfolk coast provides the perfect backdrop for our early morning beach fitness sessions.

The week culminates in a Cup Final style event! The buildup, training, sweat, and tears will all lead to this moment. You will compete against a select Military football team, putting your skills and strategies into action to secure victory.

With all Challenging events, there is always a requirement to have fun, our game night is legendary, and the final evening concludes with a Celebration dinner and awards evening at our local award-winning pub, the Jolly Sailors.

  • Itinerary

The first day begins with Lunch and the opportunity to meet fellow attendees and instructors to discuss the week ahead. Following a welcome address and an icebreaker activity, you will collaboratively plan a menu and create a shopping list for the week. After the meeting, we will travel to our accommodation, stopping at a local supermarket to pick up supplies. Once we have settled in, we will head to our local pitch for an initial skills assessment to gauge each player's abilities and identify areas for improvement. After dinner, we will take a sunset stroll along the unspoiled Norfolk coastline.

The second day begins with a fitness training session on Brancaster Beach. Following this, we will travel to The Nest in Norwich, a state-of-the-art football training facility, where we will spend the morning focusing on fundamental and technical skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and ball control. The drills and skills will be tailored to accommodate differing ability levels. Throughout the training sessions, you will be connected via performance trackers for analysis. After lunch, you will participate in small-sided games that emphasize tactical awareness and decision-making. We will then return to the Dial House for dinner. In the evening, we will gather as a team for video analysis and reviews of both individual and team performance.

We begin Day three with a fitness session on the beach, followed by a classroom-based presentation on tactical awareness, which will cover strategy, formations, and tactics. After lunch, we will head to our local pitch for a full-field training session where we will put the tactical concepts into practice. The focus will be on teamwork, communication, and positional play. In the evening, after dinner, we will have a game night that will provide an opportunity for the team to relax and bond.

Day four - Cup Final Day! This is the moment you have been waiting for. The buildup, training, sweat, and tears have all led to this point. At 14:00, you will kick off against a select Military football team, putting all your skills and tactics into play to secure victory. In the morning, we will start our day by reviewing game preparation and strategy over a leisurely breakfast. After that, we will hop on the coach to travel to Robertson Barracks. Following a light lunch, we will have a pre-match warm-up and team talk before kick-off. After our victorious win, we will return to the Dial House before heading out for a celebration dinner and awards evening at our local award-winning pub, the Jolly Sailor.

The final day begins with a leisurely breakfast before we depart the accommodation at 10:00 AM. We will arrive back at base for a Gel Blaster Battle followed by lunch and the final presentations along with team photographs.

  • DofE residentials: Aims, Principles and Outcomes

    Aims

To inspire participants through a concentrated involvement with people they don’t know, usually from different backgrounds, and bring alternative views to the challenges they will face. The Residential section broadens their experiences by empowering them to make a difference in a team-based residential setting.

    Principles

Residential experiences take young people outside their normal environment and enable them to separate themselves from their daily routines. It’s a chance to step outside their comfort zone, gain new skills for life, enjoy new experiences, and have fun. They’ll develop initiative and planning skills by finding opportunities that interest them away from their usual group of friends. By taking part in a residential, young people will broaden their horizons and develop maturity and independence. Interaction with people from different walks of life, ages and backgrounds promotes respect and understanding. Completing shared objectives will develop social and teamwork skills and prepare them for adulthood.

    Outcomes

Through completing the Residential section, young people will:

    • Meet new and varied groups of people
    • Develop the confidence to thrive in an unfamiliar environment
    • Build new relationships and show concern for others
    • Work as part of a team towards shared goals
    • Accept responsibility for themselves and others
    • Develop communication skills and effective coping mechanisms
    • Develop respect and understanding for others
    • Show initiative
    • Develop the skills and attitudes to live and work with others
  • Food and Drink

As part of the experience participants will take responsibility for catering arrangements, budgeting, shopping, food preparation and associated domestic arrangements, with a more than sufficient budget being allocated for participants to cater for everyone’s specific needs throughout the programme (meals, snacks, hot and cold soft drinks).

Starting in 2025, basic cooking lessons will be included in all our residential programs, and participants will take home a useful cooking booklet, which is perfect for transitioning to university or living independently!

Your First Meal will be Lunch on Day 1.
